If you have been following my blog for a while you know I am a huge dreamer and goal setter. I’m also a firm believer in the power of visualization. Writing down your goals and believing they can become a reality is the first step to make them happen.
A few months ago I came across this video by Mimi Ikon, one of my favorite YouTubers, about how to achieve goals and make things happen. Mimi shared some tips that actually worked for her and one of them was to create a vision board. She said that looking at the board she had created a few years ago, most of her goals had come true and the ones that didn’t, were things she no longer desired.
I was intrigued.
I knew I had to make my own and see if it actually worked.
I followed Mimi’s advice and started by writing a letter to myself. A letter saying how proud I was of accomplishing x and y. It was almost like I was in the future congratulating myself for working hard and accomplishing my dreams. In that letter, I wrote how I wanted my life to look like in a few years. It sounds weird but when you write something down, the possibility of that thing happening instantly becomes more real.
It’s not just an idea in your head anymore.
The next step was to look at that letter and write down each and every goal I wanted to achieve, followed by action steps I need to take in order to accomplish that goal. It’s all about breaking your goals into smaller steps.
Then I went on Pinterest and created a secret board with some inspiring pictures and quotes that illustrated my “ideal” life.
Since I had a lot of fun doing this project and truly believe it can be a great tool, I’m sharing with you some steps to create your own vision board so that we can all work towards our dreams together.

What Is A Vision Board?
A vision board is a visual representation of your dreams and for some, a powerful tool in making them a reality. It’s almost like a picture of how you want your ideal life to look like. When creating a vision board, you want to have a purpose behind it, you need to be clear about what you want to accomplish and why. You can’t also expect that by creating a board, your dreams will magically happen. You need to do the work and create the life you envision for yourself.
Dreams will not come true by magic. You need to do the work & create the life you envision for yourself. Click To TweetHow To Create A Vision Board To Help You Achieve Your Goals
1. What do you want to achieve?
Before you start creating your board, you need to have a very clear and thoughtful vision of the goals you want to accomplish.
- What makes you happy?
- What goals do you want to accomplish?
- What do you want your life to look like this time next year?
- You should also create a time frame for your vision board. Do you want to accomplish those goals next summer, next year or in 5 years?
Don’t forget to focus on how you want to feel and not so much about what you want to have. Plus, be realistic. It’s better to be surprised than disappointed.
2. Create your vision board.
The second step is the most fun!
Go on Pinterest or grab some magazines and start cutting out pictures, quotes or words that illustrate your goals.
You will then need a poster or a cork board to start creating your vision board. You can place the images randomly or follow a theme (body, soul, work, etc.). You can also write some words of empowerment that will motivate you every time you look at it.
Be creative and have fun!
3. Place it somewhere you can see every day.
A vision board should work as a constant reminder of your dreams. It’s a way to keep you focused on your goals and boost your motivation to work hard towards making them a reality, so don’t hide it in your closet. It should be placed somewhere you can see every day.
4. Set a plan of action.
Creating your vision board is not the final step. You need a plan of action with the steps you need to take in order to achieve your goal.
Let’s say you want to travel more. You find some inspiring pictures and write down that goal on a piece of paper. That dream will not become a reality if you don’t find a strategy to make it happen.
The vision board is a good way to visualize the life you want but it’s not a miraculous tool. If you want to travel more, write down small steps you need to take to get there – for instance, save x amount of money per month, take your own lunch to work, etc.
5. Believe your dream can become a reality.
It might sound cheesy but one of the most important steps to make your dreams happen is to believe they can actually come true. Be intentional and believe. Believe you can create your ideal life as long as you are committed and do the work!
Keep in mind!
Mapping out your future and believing your dreams can happen are not enough to make them come true. You need to do the work. Creating a vision board will only point you in the right direction.
You also need to be patient and open to changes along the way. We grow and evolve. What we want to happen next year might not be what we actually want when the time comes. You’re allowed to change your mind.

hey! I wanted to say this subscription thing is not working, at least not from my computer. and I tried both ways – from the right side of your blog and through this post as well. one (sidebar) leads to an error page and the other doesn’t leave anywhere.
Maiken – Part of me
Thank you so much for letting me know, Maiken!
I tried the form on the post and it worked fine. It doesn’t say when people subscribe though which I have to figure out but I got an email to confirm my subscription. The one on the sidebar was not working, it lead to an error page like you said, but I think I fixed it, it should be working now. 🙂 x
