For some reason, I have a feeling October is going to be a good month. I’m starting October with a weekend trip to London with the family and I’m also looking forward do start one of my favorite times of the year: the beginning of Autumn and the time leading up to Christmas. Bring on the cozy sweaters!
Meanwhile, here is the September recap and my three goals for the new month.
1. Meditate every morning.
I was quite good at this during the first couple of weeks of the month but then it all went down the drain. The new school year started which meant a lot more traffic in the streets, so I had to wake up a few minutes earlier to make sure I arrived at work in time. I was too lazy to wake up another 10 minutes earlier for my meditation, so I quit.
What I realized is that I don’t want to make meditation or any other goal of mine a strict thing I have to accomplish every single day no matter what. I don’t really like the feeling of being obligated to do something. I want to slowly get into the habit of meditation when I feel like it. The perfectionist in me thinks I failed if I miss a day but it’s okay.
2. Read 10 pages before bed.
Not sure if I have been reading exactly 10 pages, but I’ve been reading pretty much everyday now and it has been nice to switch off from the online world for a few minutes before bed.
3. Publish a blogpost once a week, at least.
Well, I missed a week so I didn’t achieve this goal.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that I’m being too harsh on myself when it comes to my blog. I’m planing on writing more deeply about this topic but, to sum it up, I’ve been reading all these articles on how to grow your blog and how you should write content that is “helpful” to your readers, otherwise is worthless, and it has been taking the fun out of blogging.
More often than not, I don’t have advice to give. I’m struggling like you and I would feel like a fraud if I sat here sharing tips to overcome something I’m dealing with. Sometimes, the most important is simply to share our story with others.
3 Goals for October
1. Comment on my favorite blogs more often.
I’m silent reader. I read quite a few blogs daily but rarely leave a comment. Because I know how much that means to me, my goal is to leave a meaningful comment every time I enjoy reading an article.
2. Declutter my laptop and email.
This needs serious intervention. I’m back at having way too many tabs open and hundreds of emails in my inbox. I feel stressed and unorganized just by looking at it so I really need to book a day to declutter my laptop and email. Any tips?
3. Start a gratitude journal.
I kept a gratitude journal a while back and it was a very helpful reminder of all the little things I should be grateful for, instead of focusing so much on what I don’t have. I’m thinking about getting the 5 Minute Journal – I’ve tried the app and really liked the concept. But since I prefer writing on paper, I might purchase the physical book.
