As a sucker for inspirational quotes, I was instantly sold by the title of this book. It’s supposed to be “a pocket ‘bible’ for the talented and timid to make the unthinkable thinkable and the impossible possible” and, if you’re like me, it’s full of quotes you will want to write down.
Not Your Typical Self-Help Book
It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be is not your typical self-help book. It is written by Paul Arden, a world’s top advertising guru, so it’s also aimed to those inside the creative industry – and it was actually recommended by one of my marketing professors.
So, How Good Do You Want To Be?
The book starts by encouraging us to aim beyond what we believe we are capable of. I usually try to think like this even though sometimes my insecurities try to pull my dreams & ambitious down. I guess that with effort & will we can be whatever we want to be. But, like the title says it, it’s not how good you are, it’s how good YOU WANT to be. We need to really want it and believe that we deserve it.
“Your vision of where or who you want to be is the greatest asset you have. Without having a goal it’s difficult to score.”
It’s Right To Be Wrong
People make mistakes. And it’s okay. The truth is, if we don’t make any mistakes in life, we probably haven’t done or made anything. We stayed inside our comfort zones. And I guess we learn with our own mistakes. Not with someone else’s. We will fail some point in our lives and the important thing is how we react to those mistakes, how we rise after every fall.
How You Perceive Yourself Is How Others Will See You
How we perceive ourselves, how we present ourselves to others, is how others will see us. And it’s all about confidence or at least the fake-it-till-you-make-it-confidence.
If You Get Stuck, Draw With A Different Pen
“Change your tools, it may free your thinking”. We can apply this to so many areas in our lives, either work, blogging or life in general. If you’re feeling stuck and seeking for creativity, change your tools, seek inspiration somewhere else.
I guess that by now you already know my thoughts on this book, I just couldn’t help myself commenting every quote I loved. I really liked reading the book & totally recommend it! It’s eye-opening and full of quotes that will inspire you. My advice is to have a little notebook & pen or even your phone next to you to write down some thoughts you will want to keep in mind!
“Talent helps but it won’t take you as far as ambition. Everybody wants to be good but not many are willing to make the sacrifices it takes to be great. You will become whoever you want to be.”
