The most wonderful time of the year is here! And I find any excuse to make a list, don’t I? So here I am about to share with you a few things I’m looking forward to this holiday season, from putting the Christmas tree up to wrapping up gifts, as well as my favorite movies to watch for a festive night in.
10 Things I’m Looking Forward To This Holiday Season
Putting the tree up
We always put the Christmas tree on the first of December. This year was no different. After putting on some of my favorite Christmas music, we decorated the tree – which can be quite the challenge with a ginger cat around. After years of chewing on it, half of the lights are no longer working but the tree still looks beautiful, if I can say so myself. There’s nothing like having your Christmas tree up to make your home feel extra cozy and festive!
Christmas light switch-on in the city
Also on the first of December, my parents and I went to the city to see the fireworks and the Christmas light switch-on. There was a lot of traffic to get into the city and we were very lucky to get there only a minute before the big tree light up followed by the fireworks. It was so worth it! Everyone was out feeling super festive, the shops were adorned with beautiful decorations, and it was cold enough to wear a coat and a scarf which, surprisingly, I missed.
Eating delicious food
One of the reasons why I love this time of the year is obviously because of the crazy amount of delicious food you get to eat: guilt-free.
Visiting Christmas markets
I’m looking forward to visiting a few Christmas markets this year. It’s so nice to wander around, buy some unique gifts, and stop for a hot chocolate!
Wrapping up presents
Some people find it tedious but I love wrapping presents. I don’t know why but I actually find it quite relaxing so I really enjoy picking up wrapping paper, ribbons, and festive washi tape to decorate my gifts. Anyone else enjoys wrapping gifts?
This year I’ve been trying to shop intentionally for each person on my list instead of buying something just because. I would encourage you to do the same and carefully think about the person you’re buying a gift for and make sure it’s meaningful.
Although I’m a big introvert, I love a good old family get-together around this time of the year. With a few relatives living away, this is our opportunity to catch up over good food and exchange gifts.
Listening to Christmas music
Don’t judge, but I may or may not have played a few Christmas songs before November. Just me? Some of my favorites include Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Frank Sinatra, Shake Up Christmas by Train, and Michael Bublé Christmas album which I recently discovered.
Watching Christmas movies
What’s better than curling up on the couch watching a Christmas movie while it’s cold and rainy outside? I recently wrote an article for Glitter Guide featuring 10 movies guaranteed to get you in a festive mood in case you fancy a read but my favorites are The Holiday, Home Alone, and a recent discovery, A Christmas Prince – cheesy and super cliché but that’s what makes it so good!
